Doing Good to the Stranger and the Citizen: Evangelicals Discuss Immigration Reform

Some evangelical leaders have spoken out in favor of comprehensive immigration reform like the Senate recently passed. Many are quoting the Bible in a way rarely seen with respect to other issues, arguing that legalizing unlawful immigrants is the Christian way to “welcome the stranger.”

This event brings together serious evangelical thinkers to examine these arguments and bring to bear their own views, informed by their faith, concerning immigration.

The Rev. Michael Wilker — who hosted 300 evangelical leaders at his Church of the Reformation, very close to the capitol in Washington DC, for an Evangelical Immigration Table Day of Action — published an op ed in the Washington Post where he reiterated these words from the gathering:

“We are announcing the Gospel that welcomes the stranger and we will denounce those that block immigration reform.”
